Arrange teams the way the work falls: departments such as\nengineering and marketing, or a cross-functional squad around one goal.\u003C\u002Fp>\n\u003Cp>A team is more than a folder of members. Purpose, in one phrase or a short paragraph\u003C\u002Fstrong>\u003C\u002Ftd>\n\u003Ctd>Short and precise: easy to repeat, easy to hire against.\u003C\u002Ftd>\n\u003C\u002Ftr>\n\u003Ctr>\n\u003Ctd>\u003Cstrong>3. What does success look like?\u003C\u002Fstrong>\u003C\u002Ftd>\n\u003Ctd>Vivid enough that a new member can see the target.\u003C\u002Ftd>\n\u003C\u002Ftr>\n\u003Ctr>\n\u003Ctd>\u003Cstrong>4. How will we measure it?\u003C\u002Fstrong>\u003C\u002Ftd>\n\u003Ctd>The KPIs, each with a target. When you create the team, name them one per line: each becomes a KPI waiting for a target, which you set on the team's page.\u003C\u002Ftd>\n\u003C\u002Ftr>\n\u003Ctr>\n\u003Ctd>\u003Cstrong>5. On the team's page, question 4 is the KPI editor: each KPI\nhas a target, an AMBER band, a cadence and a source, and at most one is the team's key KPI. Until one is marked,\nthe team reads &quot;No key KPI set&quot;. Each team's key KPI shows on \u003Cstrong>Enterprise\u003C\u002Fstrong>, beside the company's own KPIs. A team with no KPIs at all is listed on \u003Cstrong>Blockers\u003C\u002Fstrong> until you add one on its page. A KPI counts as soon as it is saved, before it has a target or is signed off.\u003C\u002Fp>\n\u003Cp>Each of the team's KPIs is a card on its page, with its light, its latest reading and its history. Where a person\nis the source, \u003Cstrong>Record a reading\u003C\u002Fstrong> on the card enters a number. A KPI has no light until its first reading.\u003C\u002Fp>\n\u003Ch2 id=\"the-lead\">The lead\u003C\u002Fh2>\n\u003Cp>Every team should have a lead: the member accountable for its charter. Choose one when you create the team, or on\nthe team's page under \u003Cstrong>Team lead\u003C\u002Fstrong>.\u003C\u002Fp>\n\u003Cul>\n\u003Cli>Making a member the lead puts them on the team.\u003C\u002Fli>\n\u003Cli>Any roles the lead holds that belong to no team yet move to this team, with the tasks the lead does in them.\u003C\u002Fli>\n\u003Cli>Taking the lead off the team leaves it without a lead.\u003C\u002Fli>\n\u003C\u002Ful>\n\u003Cp>A team with no lead reads \u003Cstrong>COO acting as lead\u003C\u002Fstrong> in the portal, and is listed on \u003Cstrong>Blockers\u003C\u002Fstrong> until you name one.\u003C\u002Fp>\n\u003Ch2 id=\"members-on-a-team\">Members on a team\u003C\u002Fh2>\n\u003Cp>Add a member on the team's page or on the member's own page; when you create a member, you can put them on a team\nwith a role in one go. Sitting on a team and holding a role are separate: a member can join a team before it has\nany roles, and a member can sit on several teams.\u003C\u002Fp>\n\u003Cp>Removing a member from a team does not take their roles away. What they lose is the team itself, and with it what\nthe team gives them, such as its tools.\u003C\u002Fp>\n\u003Ch2 id=\"deleting-a-team\">Deleting a team\u003C\u002Fh2>\n\u003Cp>\u003Cstrong>Delete team\u003C\u002Fstrong>, on the team's page, removes the team and its charter. Its members and their roles are not deleted:\nthey simply stop sitting on it, and its tasks stay, with no team, until you give them one. An enterprise always\nkeeps at least one team, so the last one cannot be deleted.\u003C\u002Fp>\n\u003Cdiv class=\"prose__planned\">\n\u003Cp class=\"prose__flag\">Planned\u003C\u002Fp>\n\u003Ch2 id=\"coming-for-teams\">Coming for teams\u003C\u002Fh2>\n\u003Cul>\n\u003Cli>\u003Cstrong>Metrics as traffic lights.\u003C\u002Fstrong> Each metric with a target and a reading, shown as on target, at risk or off\ntarget, with its trend.\u003C\u002Fli>\n\u003Cli>\u003Cstrong>Leads who propose the work.\u003C\u002Fstrong> For a metric that is at risk or off target, the team's lead proposes the work that\nwould bring it back, and you approve it.
